The popularity of electric 2- and 3-wheeled devices has exploded in recent years.
If you're a cyclist, especially if you ride an e-bike, you may have recently seen an increase in legislative activity by local municipalities, trail managers, and even some states, attempting to define and regulate the three classes of e-bikes and where each class is permitted to be used in their areas responsibility.
Not only this, but there is a huge push to reign in the improper or illegal use of high-powered e-motorcycles ("e-motos"), especially by our youth.
This is all in response to a few factors, not the least of which is that these legislative arenas are "waking up" to the reality of the existing Federal law governing e-bicycles and e-motorcycles.
As we move forward, I'm going to add information to this page regarding this topic, and why it's so important for not only e-cyclists, but cyclists of standard bicycles, to be aware of the issues and stand ready to advocate for your rights as a cyclist.
But First... Definitions
I recently did a video on the definitions of an e-bike and an e-moto. As I continue to build this page, please check out the video below, especially if you're not sure what constitutes the differences between a "true" e-bike and an e-moto.
